I hope you find this site useful as you explore this very important and moving musical, whether you're thinking about auditioning or just coming to see it. I'm thrilled about the forward-thinking people at both the Berea Grindstone Players and The Cassidy Theatre that made this important partnership possible. Theatre is certainly meant to entertain us. And with the wonderful Stephen Sondheim score for Assassins, audiences will definitely be entertained. But theatre is also meant to enlighten and challenge us. The creative people at both of these institutions understand that.
As we approach the 2008 presidential election, I can't help but reflect on our country and what the American Dream means to me. If this show starts another dialogue or gets just a few people thinking, talking and, ideally, acting to get our country to a better, more unified place, then we will have done our job. One thing is clear, none of us Americans can sit back and say or do nothing. We must talk, we must vote, we must volunteer, we must take care of those weaker than ourselves...and we must come together for peace.
